about

I wrote this song about the pretty faces that represent dated ideas. The ones that live life in a bubble all while there's a world just outside that keeps progressing filled with real people going through real things that you may not understand unless you open your mind and your heart.
These people were built pretty, but not built to last

lyrics

Glass grin, dry-wall skin/ If the eyes are the windows to the soul, I’m in/ Check her pulse in the heater/ running cold like the checkered tiles underneath her freezer/ Ice-Ice-Baby-Type demeanor/ That’s cooler than cool, man/ and slicker than the fall leaves coating her pool man/… So what’s the 411?/ Sound system still playing Mary J./ I take a break, smoking in her stairway to heaven/ I might’ve found a bible/ but it’s like she found God in her own title/ A rifle in her footlocker saying she can hold her own/ Sturdy like the world outside can’t mold her bones./ She was the house that love built/ but her walls only thinly veil guilt/ break ‘em down and there’s a war going on inside she can’t escape from/ Tradition vs. Renovation, can only take one/ At least, that’s she thinks/…Her photos hold history; her cellar holds drinks/ A closet full of skeletons, A Tell-Tale-Heart/ keeps beating, beating, beating off the charts/… There’s something in her attic/ something unholy. I mean, not to be dramatic. No magic’s here/ Just a fear. A fear of change, to rearrange/ and to protect that, it might leave blood stains/ It’s nothing strange/ Her whole block’s the same./…and you can read it on their signs/ But the numbers by their doors are the same as mine/ The numbers by their doors are the same as mine/ This old house is a relic of an era where/ fire codes didn’t take precedence and they’re aware/ I can’t blame her for sticking to what made her/but homes like that burn sooner than later/…
Built pretty, but not built to last,
Built pretty, but not built to last,
Built pretty, but not built to last,
Built pretty, but not built to last
