about

First and foremost, I'd like to give a big shout out to Bruce Templeton for being the mastering engineer on this. This man has been the final cog in the machine before our ears have been blessed by great albums from Doomtree, Brother Ali, Grieves, Dillinger Four, and so on and the fact that he had a hand in this process just makes me more excited about the future.

Anyway...

This is the first single from the upcoming album "One Night in Dresden".

This song is about growing up in our modern society and the importance that is placed on certain bits of knowledge at the expense of many of the gems that we actually need dropped on us before heading into the real world. This is about our youngest generation being criticized for our work ethic without looking at the context of the world that was left to us by a more selfish generation than many before it.

This is also about growing up making grand drunken plans with friends and the inevitable hangover of adulthood.

lyrics

[Verse 1]
I put my stunna shades on, I’m treading heavy/ turned on the news and the waters broke the levy/ Bush was in the Oval, I was sippin’ ovaltine/ Bam was on that Viva La before that family therapy/ they put those stickers on their element decks/ and it took a hot second if you tried to send a text/ I was learning how to write, wondered what would happen next/would I follow through with things and try to cash a couple checks?/ Whatever. I was on that Spartan Green and Gold/ Notebook in my pocket, ear full of cookin’ Soul/ third eye still in the dark, and where would I find you?/ See us? What a fine group//

[Hook]
Heavy on the pedals, man. Ready to go/
Ice was on their grills like it was ready to snow/
Bulldozin’ through the bad parts, ready for mo’/
And I’m ready just to have a good time, back to rockin’ those/
rockin’ those….mesh hats and slap bracelets/
….mesh hats and slap bracelets//

[Verse 2]
The earth opened up and it swallowed me whole/ I pushed off the rubble and I followed the glow/ I found two wheels, a chain and ambition/ what I was told? It’s dark? Stay fishin/ my mission was undefined, My vision was only mine/ I stuck my chin out for people and learned how to be declined/ I’m not the man who I am by mistake or misfortune/ and I may not be the beacon, but at least I’ve got my torch lit/ Back when Ashton was punkin’, and shorties got low to crunk and/ my mama put in work, so I wouldn’t just eat junk/a product of pessimism courtesy of 9/11 / now as an adult I toast to the generation I live in//

[Hook]

[Verse 3]
While we were rocking white tees and snappin’ our fingers/ the housin’ market was crashing and the damage still lingers/ I could count on those fingers the things I learned about taxes/ while we’re require to learn about chemical reactions/ ain’t no dodd frank in high school. I learned to prank/ showing school spirit dizzy off the drank/ Graduated to the real world, put a buck fifty in the tank/ just to make it out to party with the snakes. And there it is//
[Outro]
Austin Palmer ain’t shit to me/
“Ain’t shit to me”/
I’m still looking out the window of the bus from my seat/
“looking out the window of the bus from my seat”/
The Pythagorean theorem ain’t shit to me/
“ain’t shit to me”/
I’m still looking out the window of the bus from my seat/
And I’ll be here if you’ve got a story for me//

[PT. 2]

Don’t let a moment change you/ don’t let the world drain you/ we all feel it sometimes, It gets old, man/
It’s all the same thing, all the same thing. It’s all the same thing/

They said this house has got a lot of walls. Break em down sometime and lose control, man/
It’s all the same thing, all the same thing. It’s all the same thing/
We’re all guilty of trying to play the precog/ the future ain’t been promised, so baby keep on/
It’s all the same thing, all the same thing. It’s all the same thing//
[Outro Refrain]
Promises of Stress in the Atmosphere/
Boy, I wonder what happened here/
Friends and beer and delusions of grandeur/
I left the party and the party left after//
